Intel D845GVSR - Booting Problem

Post by saurabhvasa »

I have been using Intel D845GVSR motherboard from last one year. I am using Pentium IV 2.0 ghz with 256 DDr RAM. I have a problem. when I power on my machine it displays Intel Desktop Original Motherboard screen and hangsup. It does not goes further nor it goes to CMOS setup. I have tried re-configuring bios by setting jumper to 2-3. But still problem persist. Please help me.

Anticipating your early reply.

Try reseating all your connections (CPU, memory, power connections, everything); sometimes when you install things they can tend to not be seated right. If that doesn't work, see if you can get into the BIOS and double-check all your settings (CPU FSB, multiplier, vcore, memory, etc.). Otherwise, I would definitely start looking at the hardware. One thing though, does it POST? (power-on self test) You can tell by looking at the keyboard when it first boots up because the lights on the keyboard will usually flash on and right back off, then the floppy status light will engage; if it does all that and it still hangs up, then it could be either your mobo or CPU (and maybe your RAM, but check that last), and also you could have a corrupted BIOS, so you could short the CMOS pins to reset it (usually an on-board jumper near the CMOS battery or the CMOS itself; just move the jumper over to the next pin, boot it, then turn it right off and put the jumper back where it belongs), or it may need to be flashed, which you can go to Intel's website and get the BIOS update suitable for your mobo. try all this first, and if you still don't get any results, I would point the finger at hardware then for sure. Let us know how things go.

i would reseat the cpu (clean it and the heatsink and reapply some thermal paste) and reset the bios/cmos and give it a whirl.

is there another cpu in the house you could try?

Believe it or not I figured it out. The CDROM drive jumper was in the incorrect place which caused the bios not to load since it was plugged into the Secondary IDE. Didn't think that something like that would cause it but it did. I moved the jumper to Master pin and Boot up is successful.
