I'm looking into upgrading soon and was wondering if anyone knows of some good ones. Or just any at all, because I'm having a hard time finding them.
I know ASRock makes one but I'm not exactly keen on their track record for reliability. I've also seen the Albatron one for sale, but the price seems a bit high at over $120USD usually, plus I don't like being limited to just one choice.
asus p4gd1... but, it isn't sold in north america. you'd have to find someone that has it and is willing to sell it to you OR go through the trouble of finding someone out of state to buy it for you and send it to you.
Alright, well, I actually went around and scoured each and every motherboard manufacturer website I could find, and came up only with one other board, which happened to be from ASUS. And yes, I do mean every manufacturer. ABIT, ALBATRON, AOPEN, ASROCK, ASUS, BFG, BIOSTAR, CHAINTECH, DFI, ECS, EPOX, EVGA, FOXCONN, GIGABYTE, INTEL, IWILL, JETWAY, MACH SPEED, MSI, OCZ, PCCHIPS, SANMAX, SOLTEK, SUPERMICRO, TYAN, and VANTEC. (Basically the entire motherboard brand list copied and pasted from NewEgg.)
And it seems there are only four motherboards on our little mud ball that has both Socket 478 and an Intel 915 chipset.
The ASUS P4GPL-X, ASUS P4GD1, Albatron PX915P4C Pro, and the ASRock P4Dual-915GL.
The ASUS ones are impossible to find, the Albatron one is only on eBay, and the ASRock uses crappy OST and Taicon capacitors which doesn't bode well for its longevity.
All I want to do is be able to run my precious P4 2.4c Northwood with HT, and be able to use PCI-X16 without Prescott or DRM. Is that so much to ask? I'm about to go postal on Intel right about now. Well... now that I think about it, it's not entirely their fault motherboard manufacturers didn't see a market for the 478 915 combo, but I still blame Intel for Prescott and Pentium DRM.

Would the Elitegroup PF88 Extreme Motherboard ($93) and the SIMA I8S[G] socket adapter work for you?
Well, like stated, I'm not too fond of Prescott for obvious reasons, and though I was considering the Pentium D, the inclusion of DRM built into the chip just bugs me. I'd love to get an X2, but ya know... the prices, lol. I'm not made out of money.
That SIMA I8S[G] sounds interesting, but how would one in the US be able to aquire it? I can't find a single result for it on Google much less Froogle.
Well... looks like I'm probably going to end up using eBay afterall, that is... when I get around to figuring out everything I need or want for the upgrade. Just hope they don't run out of the board too like NewEgg and ChiefValue in the last few days. Urg... damn PayPal.
Edit: I know the DRM doesn't do anything now, but only because there's no software out there that utilizes its capabilities yet, and with Vista on the way...
Lets just say I like how it currently works with the buy, rip, copy, transfer or burn, and play on any device "system" and would rather not have the RIAA mucking it up with their profiteering.
