Intel D865GLC, need tweaking for more performance

OK, I'm not at all up on Intel MOBO's. Actually, I never was up to date on any Intel MOBO's until I got a new system over the Christmas holidays as a gift.

MOBO: Intel D865GLC

CPU: Intel P4 3.0Ghz (Northwood)

Mem: DDR-400 (PC3200), Dual Channel, 2 512 sticks for 1Gb. Freq is 200Mhz, CAS is 2.5,3,3,8 @200Mhz and 2.0,3,3,7@166Mhz.

Well, I'm a liquid cooling guru, not an OC'ing guru by any means. This setup was given to me as a gift. So, who am I to turn it down.

Is there a way to bump this system to 3.2Ghz or 3.4Ghz? I got plenty of various liquid cooling solutions to keep the heat down, I'm just a lame duck at OC'ing.

I'm using this computer for heavy duty graphics editing. It's a bigger step up from the 750Mhz machine I did the work on prior.

Stev,

I believe on that board you can enable a 4% burn-in feature, which would get you an extra 120MHz or so. It does not lock the AGP/PCI bus, but no big deal at 4%. The BIOS does not allow you to change fsb or voltages -- there might be some software that will overclock it from the desktop though...

anyone else have any ideas?

Nate,

I've done some digging around and found a Dentist, who is a gamer, that has OC'ed this board with the same CPU. He bumped the FSB up to 880Mhz and got the CPU up to 3.3Ghz and system stayed stable. He used a program called CPUFSB to trick the PLL. http://www.cpufsb.de

Yep, not much can be done otherwise.

It's a mild OC, but better than nothing.

I'm running an aircooled ThermalTake solution on the CPU now. The Intel monitor hits the yellow zone while at 80% under load. I'll be using the HydroCool 3/8" tubing all around and DDC pump modded to cool it shortly.

Well, the Intel board's PLL isn't able to advanced any. It has the cypress PLL that isn't modifiable.

I have the ability to trade this board for a 865P Neo. However, the mobo has no LAN functions. I've read a few reviews that a Northwood 2.8Ghz was pushed to 3.4Ghz using at board. It would have gone higher, but the reviewer's PSU was the limiting factor at 300W.

Buy a cheapo PCI LAN card.......you should be able to get one for ~$10
