D975XBX2, can blue sata ports be used as JBOD or RAID only ?

Post by slickmarty »

Does anyone know it the blue sata ports can be configured as just a bunch of discs or does it have to be used as Marvell Raid only????
If so, can someone give me a walk through ????
Seems like my black Intel ports are filling up fast.
Thanks

I've honestly never set up just a bunch of disks on any of my machines. Just stuck to RAID0, RAID1, and RAID 5 personally.

i am new to this RIAD thing so I don't know what that means, sorry.
So far i have 3 sata discs on the the black ports and when i get the ide to sata converter i will use that on the forth port. The three seem to work fine on the black ports as individual discs. Since they are full now and if I wanted to add more hard drives i wondered about using those blue ports.
any other info on how to do that would be great.
thanks

Since our systems will not boot of the Intel/Black Sata ports (due to an IDE issue posted in another thread), we are using the Marvell ports with no problems.

One SATA OS drive plugged into first Marvell Blue port. One SATA data drive plugged into second Marvell Blue port. No special setup required. Plug in and Marvell bios driver detects drives.

Not sure about the blue (Marvel) SATA's but I am using black (Intel) for raid and spare drives with no problems.
