Greetings,
After installing the Linksys WMP300N wireless adaptor the PC freezes (no key functions work) and needs to be rebooted. Connection can work for short time but locks under load.
After spending 2.5 hours on the phone with Linksys tech support a supervisor finally gets on and says my boards PCI slots are incompatible with their WMP300N PCI wireless adaptor. Their solution, bring it back and get the USB model.
Anyone experienced similar problems? Have tried everything any clues? My feeling is that card is the incompatible one not my D975XBX2.
Thanks
Linsys PCI incompatible with wireless adaptor (D975XBX2)
Sure you got the right driver?
For me, linksys pci adapters were always a bit screwy although their routers were the best. I don't know why it wouldn't work. What OS you on?

PS: Don't bother talking to the linksys tech support. They're all from india and don't know very much - google will serve your needs better.

I'm using Linksys WMP54G and like every other wireless PCI card I've ever used, I have occasional issues but overall it's running well on my XBX2.

I have a laptop from 98 and I figured that I might as well put it to good use. I went and bought a wireless adapter for it (WMP54GS). Long story short, I tried everything, nothing worked. I got a hold of tech support and was on the phone for over three hours trying to determine the problem when the technician finally informed me that it does not work on windows 98 (only 98 SE). After many days of messing with it I just installed drivers for the wmp54g version of the card and it worked. Conclusion? Over 3 hours of talking on the phone added to my phone bill because the technician couldn't bother to tell me that it wasn't compatible in the first place.dicecca112 wrote:actually I had the opposite reaction Linksys Support is great. I dont have experience on the subject with my xbx2 because its wired, but I have used 3 other linksys pci cards in the past in various systems. One of them on a comp running xp requires atleast one "repair" each day. I have tried every setting on my router and card. Another has connection issues (lost repeatedly) and the computer is directly in front of the router, opposite one wall.Sparky wrote:I'm using Linksys WMP54G and like every other wireless PCI card I've ever used, I have occasional issues but overall it's running well on my XBX2.
Another thing that is unrelated but still bothers me is that the linksys software provided with the cards & routers are bloated.
Just my 2 cents.

follow up Linsys PCI incompatible with wireless adaptor...
Just a quick follow up Linksys PCI card went back to Circuit City for refund.
Borrowed a Linksys WMP54G card from a box at work (in working order) and installed. Well the same situation occurs. PC freezes up and requires reboot.
For those that have asked:
OS - XP pro with all current updates
Card drivers are current
Interesting note there are serveral persons on the Linksys boards with the same freeze situation.
For the moment I am still plugged in. Any ideas are appreciated.

it is suprising that they didn't tell you instantly that it COULD NOT work with win98, or at least have it listed on the box as non-compatible (it was a well known WIN98/USB thing)progrip wrote:I have a laptop from 98 and I figured that I might as well put it to good use.dicecca112 wrote:actually I had the opposite reaction Linksys Support is great. I'm thinking it could be either the D975XBX2 or the linksys,
both seem to have multiple complains about failures/IRQ conflicts/etc.
It's particularly strange on 2 premium products from 2 top tier manufacters, who generally don't rely on 'quick & dirty' tweaks to get maximum preformance.
since you returned the N card there is no way to test it in another computer, and you believe the borrowed card from work, works.
it points to the MB, or at least the MB/linksys problem being across the board (though on a quick google, I do see the combo used fairly widely sucessfully.)
doesn't the D975XBX2 have an onboard LAN?
Is there a reason not to use a wired connection?
Have you tried disabling the onboard LAN and removing it's drivers completely, to avoid any conflict?
Can you still return the whole linksys setup and try another brand?

Followup D975XBX2 / Linkys PCI card incompatibilites
Thanks all for your responses.
Here's where I am. Still have PCI problem.
Linksys N wireles PCI adaptor has been returned for credit.
Removed a working Linkys WMP54G card from another PC running Win XP Pro and installed with same results as before.
The same difficulties occured after disinstalling the Intel onboard Lan.
Since other users have been able to make the D975XBX2 and WMP54G work, have to conclude its the MB.
Now where, any thoughts?
Thanks
