HP Pavillion a6160a (GC679AA) Overclocking

Post by smokin_mitch »

Hi

A friend of mine has just scored a new HP pavillion pc with a Q6600 and vista ultimate :)

It has an Intel G33 motherboard, Is it capable of being overclocked? Like say running the Q6600 @ 3Ghz (333x9 as opposed to 266x9)?

To bad it only has 1gb of ram and an 8400Gs it doesnt perform so well :(

I'm trying to convince my friend to get rid of the 8400gs and get an 8800gts 320mb or an overclocked 8600gt oh and another gig of ram to then it might be worth Overclocking the CPU

bottom line is Can the Q6600 be Overclocked on this motherboard (Intel G33) ?
My System:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 @ 3.33Ghz (1333fsb 333x10)
Thermaltake BigTyp 120vx CPU cooler
BFG Nforce 680i SLI (p31 bios)
4Gb ram DDR2-1067Mhz Corsair pc8500C5D + Dominator fan
Inno3d 2x 8800GTX SLI (169.12 driver)
2x 250gb HDD (raid 0) + 1 750gb hdd
Antec 1000w psu (with racing stripe) lol
thermaltake Armor full tower
Fusion Dual Digital 4 HDTV tuner
Acer 24" widescreen lcd 1920x1200
Logitech G15 keyboard, LX7 mouse and 5.1 surround speakers
Vista Ultimate 64bit

i doubt you can overclock via the bios since the OEM most likely as locked those.
Dell Sucks.... In my opinion anyways

PC Spec's

You can't overclock that PC. There might be a very slight chance of doing it via software, if the PLL chip is supported by clockgen (very unlikly as it's HP)

Alternatively you could open the box and see who makes the motherboard. I think HP uses Foxconn so you may be able to get a BIOS off their site. If you are able to do this your warranty is gone. So that defeats the purpose of buying a prebuilt computer.
