I build a new computer based on an Intel 6600 quad. When I startup with a Vista Install CD, I get the following error messages:
PXE-E61: Media Test Failure...check cable
PXE-M0R: Exiting Intel Boot Agent
Then, Windows starts.....it asks which language I want......Then I hit the INSTALL WINDOWS radio button and it says "A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing:" But, when I put in a CD with drivers, it can't read it. I have a LITEON DVD Writer model LH-20A1L06C. If I could find a driver, I could try to read it from a USB Flash device. The manual says that Windows default CD/DVD driver will work and the box only came with Nero. Any ideas?
Can't install Vista
Re: Can't install Vista
i think you might need to put SATA drivers or something on a floppy

Re: Can't install Vista
Try the other SATA controller on the motherboard if you have another one. I installed Vista fine off my LH-20A1S on a socket 939 ULi chipset. If you don't have another SATA controller try a new SATA cable.
See if there is an option in your BIOS to EMULATE PATA under the SATA controller. I had to use this until I could install the SATA drivers and then changed the SATA to run AHCI.

Re: Can't install Vista
FYI:
I also built a BX2 with the q6600. I had no trouble with Vista32 and no extra driver is needed for the DVD drive. I used the Pioneer SATA DVD burner connected to the primary SATA controller as the install drive. I also installed using another brand SATA DVD drive. I have had combonations of a CD drive and DVD burners on the IDE. I would remove all other hardware such as PCI cards for now. I have re-installed the OS several times (because I am experimenting... with software). Avoid the secondary controller for now, disable it in the BIOS. I have two Seagate hard drives in RAID 1 also on the primary SATA controller. IF you are running RAID, there is a driver install from a floppy.
(Just so you know that Vista32 with the Q6600 is OK) Good luck. Since I have a simular setup, let me know if I can answer any questions or run a small test.
Maybe you just have a bad drive or install DVD/CD? Can you test it on another system?

Re: Can't install Vista
My board has 2 sets of 4 SATA connectors. I switched my 4 drives to the other set of connectors and everything works fine. Thanks again!
