System Zone 1 Temp

as i stated in my previous post, i am put together my first intel board.

i installed a few utilities, Intel TAT, CPU-Z, Intel Desktop Utilities and Intel Desktop Control Center (which crashes every time i try to start it. it gives me and error).

ANyway, every few min, Intel Destop Utilities pops up a screen (see pic) that says, System Zone 1 Temp exceeded recommended max temp of 127*C.

I have no idea what the Zone 1 Temp is.

Here is pic 2 of what TAT shows about my CPU temp.

Any ideas?

Download speedfan or everest home edition, and see what the temperature readings say on those.

if anything was that hot, you'd have a problem, most likely its just a misreading thermal sensor, nothing to worry about

yeah, after about 15-20 pop ups, it stops appearing.

the thing i dont understand is what exactly are the zone 1 and zone 2 temps?

on a different note, my machine is pretty loud. My wife is in the other room and when she talks to me, i can't hear it. granted, the case is still open, but i specifically purchased quiet parts, like Zerotherm heat sink and Antec power something 2.0 PSU.

has anyone heared anything bad about the zerotherm? i want the quietest machine possible.

the intake and exhaust fans are cheap/old ones (black ones).

Based on my experience with the XBX2, I highly recommend you uninstall Desktop Control Center. If you want to monitor your fans, why don't you try Intel Desktop Utilities:

Fans are usually the biggest culprits, Video card fans tend to be the loudest IMO

sparky, i have it, but this is the error i get EVERY time i try to open it.

in addition, i uninstaller it and then re-installed it. same error.

dicecca, i do not have a fan on my video card.

i got another black case fan and not much improvement. i think it's the Zerotherm heat sink fan.

I am thinking of getting the Artctic Freezer 7 heat sink. have you heard good things about it? particularly if it's loud or quiet.

It appears your error is with Desktop Control Center. Uninstall it, reboot, then try to install and run Desktop Utilities. I had the same message you posted when I ran DCC.

Hope it works. If you already have Desktop Utilities installed, uninstall it as well before the reboot, and then install ONLY Desktop Utilities. I tried many times to get DCC to work for me and in the end it was so much easier just to go in to BIOS and change my settings than to lock up my computer every time.

sparky, last night i uninstalled it, downloaded it from the intel site, and shut the computer down (like i always do at night).

i just tried installing it again, ran it and got the same error.

I did not un-install theintel desktop utilities (the app that gives me the pop up window every 2 min for hr).

maybe i should uninstall both and then just install the IDCC.

not sure what you did in the bios. what settings did you change?

i dont want to overclock or anything like that. i just dont want that temp warning to be a REAL warning and cause problems.

In BIOS I have disabled 'Watchdog' as this seemed to cause boot problems with my OC.
I've used this link to set up my OC & RAM settings.

what is Watchdog?

is that a term for a setting in the BIOS? i did not see anything like that when i was fiddling with it.

Watchdog is a setting in BIOS that is only visible when you move the BIOS jumper from the normal settins (pins 1and 2) to pins 2 and 3. Move the jumper, reboot, disable watchdog, you'll be prompted to shut the system down, move the jumper back to 'normal' then reboot in to Windows.

i did what you said, but it still does not work. i get the same old error like i did before.

i disabled only watchdog...not the other one, EC1 or something like that.

also, the temperture in the bios also showed 127C. should i be concerned about it?

If your temp is accurate you should be very concerned as it's way too hot.

Somethings definitely wrong there. Try re-seating your HSF. Use a quality TIM. And don't overclock until your sure the temps are normalized.

but just to let you all know....EVERYTHING is running fine. no smoke, no burning, nothing.....everything is perfect.

it just takes a bit too long from the moment i start the computer to the time the first Mozilla window opens.

however, not sure what you mean. sorry, i am not up to speed yet. :)

do you mean heat sink? if its that....this is my second one and still same thing.
not sure what TIM is either.

In respect to the Intel(R) Desktop Control Center Tool, we have not had similar cases reported nor do we have a known issue running it on a system based on the Intel(R) Desktop Board D975XBX2. As long as you run the correct version, compatible with Windows* XP Pro., there should be no problem:

I think what IRQ Conflict is telling you is to remove your heatsink / fan, clean the bottom of the heatsink (alcohol with a paper towel will do, be careful though). Then re-apply some thermal paste (Arctic Silver etc..) reseat the heatsink / fan making sure the clips are all the way attached to the mobo socket and see if that helps reduce your temps.

it has been awhile now and everything still runs fine.

i believe i changed the heat sink, cleaned the CPU surface before i installed my arctic cooler.

before i had a different heat sink, which i did not like. bought the cooler and cleaned the top before putting it on there.

because i have not had issues...do you think it's just a mis-read?
