Latest D975XBX2 Bios and Overclocking

Post by Johnny_B500 »

Hey Guys,

Just a quick question. Has anyone had any problems overclocking in the latest Bios revision? I can't seem to get my Q6600 over 2.66 GHZ after updating the bios and installing Vista Ultimate.

Thanks.........!

Yeah it's weird to say the least. I've just reset the BIOS back to its defaults so I'll try another OC tonight.

Johnny-

No problems here with a QX6700 running Vista Ultimate 64-bit. What's happening when you try to OC? Is the watchdog kicking in, or are you getting the 3 beeps? You may need to power off, unplug the power cord, turn the power back on with the power unplugged to drain power, then move the jumper to maintenance mode, plug the power cord back in, and power on. That works for me, although some people have had to remove the CMOS battery and wait from 5-20 minutes.

Watchdog, C1E and EIST are all off. Anything over 2.66 GHZ and I get a black screen and no boot. It's very weird as I have had 3.2 GHz with ease in the past!

I know 4 sticks worked for you before, but have you tried dropping to just one or two sticks of RAM since this problem started to see if that helps? Have you tried reverting to the older BIOS to see if that helps?

No I haven't done either as of yet. Dropping 2 sticks is an idea I was going to try however the BIOS is a diff story as I have no clue what I was running before as it was the stock BIOS with the board. I kicked myself as it was updating for not writing it down.

Anyway I'll keep you posted how I get on as I couldn't even boot on 1:1 timings last night!

John-

That doesn't sound good. If you aren't seeing any BIOS text at all, then I guess it must be a CPU speed / RAM timing issue. If you were having drive problems you'd at least see some of the BIOS messages before the hang. Good luck- I know what a pain it can be to troubleshoot these issues if you don't have extra motherboards, CPUs, RAM lying around to swap.

Oh no I can see the BIOS fine just when I try to go over 2.66 GHz or try and boot on 1:1 timings I get a bad boot (black screen) which I can easily recover from by changing the jumper position or sometimes by a full power down/unplug.
