Like I said we all have it and they are looking into it, but I wouldn't hold your breath as a five second hang is expected as devices load.

nice! i even didn't care about this anymore, as they could explain me the meanings of the two timing displays ;)

No, this is NOT expected! It works (doesn't hang) when having "automatic drive configuration" enabled!

The hang occurs in this cases (as already written in a previous post):

With "automatic drive configuration disabled", "SATA set to AHCI" and "primary IDE disabled", my machine hangs for about 10 seconds before loading Windows. While it hangs it shows "94" as post-code (means "Clearing keyboard input buffer"). See below for all other bios-settings. If I attach a floppy-drive and enable the floppy-controller in the bios, then the boot-process "hangs" for the same amount of time, but it shows "BA" instead "94" then!

I even have the feeling that my PS/2 mouse issue could be caused by this (my bios settings). I just don't have the time to test this all the day. And I don't want to enable the "automatic drive configuration", as windows will detect (and load) ide-driver/channel then (even if no device is connected to it)! I just want to use (and load) AHCI! That's why want to have the IDE controller disabled. But then it hangs (better: it has this large delay then). You understand?

Right, but like I said in my post you are using an older Cherry PS2 keyboard and a Sharkoon PS2 mouse... The long display of post code 94 means that the system is looking for the input devices and having troubles. Borrow a friends keyboard and mouse and see if the issue goes away. I'd bet that it does! (Intel tried to replicate your system, but it seems Sharkoon doesn't even sell PS2 mice anymore and is big in Europe only). remember don't shoot the messenger.

come on. these are not old devices (keyboad bought one year ago, the mouse bought 2 months ago!)

all (or most) USB mices come with PS/2 adapters! this sharkoon as well (usb->ps/2).

both (keyboard AND mice) didn't have a single problem on my old board.

AND why does it not hang if I have the "automatic drive configuration" enabled? if there would be a delay to detect ps/2 devices, then it would always have this delay. but it doesn't! this really is a bug in their bios. trust me. something is fucked up when having the automatic drive config disabled.

please read this again (as it seems you don't understand the problem completely):

you see the section with the "BA". this is so weird. the "94" also doesn't mean the system is looking for devices (as the keyboard works already - otherwise i wouldn't get into the bios). "94" means "keyboard input buffer" (whatever this means).

BA means "Detecting presence of a removable media (IDE, CD-ROM detection, etc.)".

To say it again for better readability, the Intel guys shall test the following things:

- Windows XP SP2 installed on a SATA harddisk (connected to SATA port 0)
- a SATA DVD-Rom (connected at SATA port 1)
- a Floppy drive
- a PS/2 keyboard

and the following BIOS-settings:

Advanced / Peripheral Configuration
- Parallel Port Enabled
- Mode ECP
- Audio disabled
- On-board LAN Enabled
- Secondary SATA Controller Disabled
- Onboard 1394 Disabled

Advanced / Drive Configuration
- Use Automatic Mode Disabled
- Use Serial ATA Enabled
- ATA/IDE Mode Native
- Configure SATA as AHCI
- Primary Channel Disabled

Advanced / Floppy Configuration
- Diskette Controller Disabled

Advanced / USB Configuration
- USB Ports Disabled

Boot
- Boot Menu Type Normal
- Hard Drive Order Hardisk
- Boot to Optical Devices Disabled
- Boot to Removal Devices Disabled
- Boot to Network Disabled

If they will do EXACTLY this, they will get the "94" and this delay before Windows boots!

Then they shall change the following BIOS-setting to

Advanced / Floppy Configuration
- Diskette Controller Enabled

Now they will get the "BA" instead the "94" and also the same delay before Windows will boot!

no (don't have others here). but: this scenario even happens without the mouse connected at all (this really doesn't has anything to do with the keyboard and mouse, but the manual drive configuration!). i've updated the above test (no mouse needed for this to reproduce)!

thank you!

just installed bios version 2507 and can confirm, that this is fixed. ecc now stays enabled when configuring the timings manually! very nice!

Apoptosis wrote:A number of users want the ability to disable the COM port. I understand this request, but adding features like this to a production BIOS isn't going to happen (Yes, that means Intel isn't going to add it).
But adding things like HPET (High Precision Timer added in the previous version) is no problem on a production BIOS? Bit strange policy if you ask me!

The BIOS that Intel released today includes the Marvel HD LED and ECC fixes that have been talked about a bunch here on the forums of Legit Reviews. I spoke with the BIOS engineers and, with the urgency of our request, they utilized both of their BIOS Evaluation Labs (Oregon and Malaysia) to release the BIOS ahead of schedule. I was told it was going to launch Monday, but they actually got it out today thanks to Intel's semi automated process. I had hoped to give you a little notice before it was released, but on the up side the BIOS is out early and is available to download.

Intel D975XBX2 BIOS Update 2507

Now that the fix has been posted I am going to lock this thread and any bugs that you find in BIOS 2507 that are posted here on the forums in the next couple days will be looked at directly by Intel. After that please e-mail their tech support or call their 1-800 number for support.
