power needed? (bad axe 2)

Post by CMcguire »

I just put together my first pc and during process there is the bit (step 13 on guide thing) where it is talking about the power connections and i was wondering do i need to connect the 1x4 pin auxillary power connection? current i don't have it in and its working but just want to make sure.

Im using a gtx 8800 gc and have the 2 pci express power clips installed directly on the card.

You should use all the power connectors! They are not for show ;)

Dont mess around. I believe the manual says you need it if you have a 75W+ GPU.

Quote the manual: "If high power (75 W or greater) add-in cards are installed in either or both the Secondary PCI Express x16 (electrical x8) and the PCI Express x16 electrical x4) bus add-in card connectors, the Auxiliary PCI Express graphics power connector must be used. Failure to do so may cause damage to the board and the add-in cards."

Trust me, you do *not* want to have to deal with Intel support if you need to RMA this thing for something like that.
