Highest Processor for My New MoBo?

I'm sure sorry if this is a repeat question - I tried browsing and searching and didn't see my answer.
Anyway, I have an Intel D925xcv mobo, and would like to purchase the fastest processor that's supported. Intel's website says the 660 is max, and not to try any others (actually, it appears to me that the 3.40GHz Extreme Edition in this series is the best choice - what say you?). But, I wonder if their grid is outdated - it was last modified 27-Jun-2006.
Intel's Link: http://www.intel.com/support/motherboar ... 021808.htm
So, my first question is: will a 661 processor be alright, even though it isn't in Intel's list?
Then, will higher processors work, such as the dual core type?
Thanks!
