Okay where's kenc51??

if i'm already gonna be $860 in the hole, i might as well spend the extra $70 between boards?

i don't know. i want to be able to run in SLI eventually, would the P5B be compatible with 2 nVidia cards or is it just for ATI? it would seem both boards are decent overclockers, which one would run cooler with a Zalman 9700 LED? also i've got another thread on SATA connections, would these boards be able to use a Raptor? i'm confused as to the SATA/Serial ATA150 connections, cause i'd like the Raptor's speed over the 7200RPM ones...

between the ASUS P5B and the ASUS P5N-E, which one would be the least hot-running, and be the better choice for my needs?

I have the P5B, it's a sweet board. Mine is currently dead and I'm changing it for a P5K Deluxe, but the P5B never gave me any troubles, until the end.
They are easy to setup and overclock. I don't know about the P5N-E but others here have them and seem to love them too.
The P5B will only do XFire, SLI is only for Nvidia chip sets. (for now)
The P5N-E will only do SLI and not XFire.

The Raptor drive will work fine on both boards. Both boards will run about the same with the 9700 cooler aswell and both chip sets run about as hot as each other, with the P5N-E running a little bit more.

Tough choice, but mine would be/was the P5B,

well you answered all my questions, and i think i'll go with the P5N-E on account of my not wanting to go Crossfire later on, and seeing how its the newer of the two chipsets! I'll definately be back looking for help OC-ing it, but that wont be for another month when i get all money saved for the parts! thanks!

With P5N-E SLI board, if you have RAM that rates 1T .. you would be able to run your RAM at 1T command .. Meanwhile, I don't think you have that option in P5B (or at least P5B-Dlx board) ....
Furthermore, with P5N-E SLI board, you can have more FSB:RAM ratio choices by setting RAM speed manually ...

The 965 chip set is more stable IMO

I've got no issues at all with my cheapo 650i board, highest E4300 OC on several forums............. But then again I have a El-Cheapo bottom of the line MSI board, not a single complaint in the world with the board or chipset so far, and I put this damn thing through hell. Inbetween using this board, I killed a XFX 680I LT trying to get the samething out of it, but the 680I LT just couldn't take it and died, now I'm back to the cheapo MSI 650I board and couldn't be happier..................

Agree. However, if you go for extreme OC and benching .... IMO, P5N-E SLI (650i nVidia chipset) would be my choice.

It totally depends on what CPU you have and 650i board you get .. results might vary ...
