Intel DG965OT external drive boot possible?

Dear All,
I wish anyone who has experience on this can help me. Any suggestion is greatly appreciated.
My mobo is Intel DG965OT. The internal harddisk is installed with windows XP and running smoothly. I got another external harddisk, and just installed Ubuntu 7.04 today. Configured the bios to boot with the external drive, nothing happened and the computer boot with the normal windows XP partition. I enabled the USB boot option in the boot menu, and did choose this harddisk as the boot device before the internal drive. I even tried to disable the internal drive by unplugging the power to the drive, in which case, the computer reported no bootable device. Tried several other bios options, but still no luck.
I was wondering if my installation of the ubuntu was not correct. Taken it and plug to my friend's dell computer, and the external drive did boot properly to the linux. So this installation is correct and bootable.
Searched various search engine and also Intel's website, but didn't find any relevant information. Is there anybody who tried and success (or fail) on booting with an external USB hard drive? Is this mobo not supporting this? (which then looks awkward as there is this option).
Thanks in advance for any help!
regards,
wil.
