If you didnt need it till now, i think you wont need it anyway.
It is used by old hardware (very old printers+scanners in example), dot matrix printers, some usually old lab systems or big photocopiers and probably lot more (but nothing relavitely new for home use). And say if you ever need it for some reason you can buy an addon card/usb to parallel. Moreover, check if the motherboard has a Serial pin head that can be connected a serial port and convert it to LPT port with a simple serial to parallel adapter.
