I saw a few posts about led issus for the power and HDD led's, mine didn't work either.
So I took my previous gigabyte mb that I upgraded from "I got it in 2000 runs like a top" out of the closed and
did some testing, with a 2 wire blue led light I had laying around from a Vantec Nexstar ESATA drive I had.
Well it turns out that it does matter which female wire connector is on which male post on the mb.
I used the alternate front panel power led which is on the D975XBX2 mb "RTFM" since my power led had a 3 hole
female connector. If you put in on and it doesn't light your LED just try it in the other direction If it doesn't work in either direction the led could be shot. It worked for me. Same with the HDD led if yours doesn't work now try reversing it.
Now both my HDD and Power LED's are working.

Hope this helps
