Never felt the need to update the BIOS before, but I just got some new RAM so I decided to update the BIOS at the same time. I downloaded the Express Installer and ran it from Windows XP. My system rebooted and went through the motions of updating the BIOS. It said that it was updated successfully and then it restarted the system again. This time though, my system wouldn't restart. It POSTs just fine, but when it gets to the BIOS splash screen it simply stalls and it just sits there. It's impossible to get past it or to get into the BIOS. I tried changing the jumper for recovery mode, but that also didn't make a difference. It simply won't go past the BIOS splash screen.
Have any of you ever experienced this before or have any idea on how to fix this issue?
Thanks in advance!

you didn't restart it after it hung the first time for a bit did you? It's a long delay the first reboot... I've heard of people rebooting their system too early (in the middle of the flash) and had some issues.

Yeah that's definitely not the issue. In fact, I called Intel yesterday and got them to send me a new motherboard. I received it an hour ago. I just finished putting it back together with the new motherboard and unbelievably it's having the exact same probem. It pauses on the bios splash screen at post code 5A. Any idea what it could be? Defective RAM maybe?Apoptosis wrote:you didn't restart it after it hung the first time for a bit did you? It's a long delay the first reboot... Also I just noticed that the CPU LED on the motherboard is RED. Is that normal or does that mean my CPU might be the problem?

5A is "Resetting PATA/SATA bus and all devices" I'd unplug all your SATA/PATA devices and see if that makes any difference.mjronline wrote: It pauses on the bios splash screen at post code 5A. Any idea what it could be? Defective RAM maybe?

I wish I had seen your reply before I took apart and rebuilt the whole system again. It turned out to be one of the PATA devices.DJL wrote:5A is "Resetting PATA/SATA bus and all devices" I'd unplug all your SATA/PATA devices and see if that makes any difference.mjronline wrote: It pauses on the bios splash screen at post code 5A. Hi,
These stepes may help you to recovery the system. When you remove the jumper for the motherboard the BIOS enters into recovery mode as you already know. In my case it was not recovering. I could only see the DVD's led activity, and was not able to complete the recovery. I asked Intel's Support and the will replace my motherboard. Well, second try. I thought, let's remove the DVD IDE cable and check what changes. I created the floppy (format it with windows) with the .BIO, inserted into my old and good floppy drive, remove the jumper and that's it. It worked, the system access the floppy several times and the display didn't display anything. Only after the .BIO is loaded and it stats flashing the display shows the current status. I hope it help some guys here.
Good luck,
MBL.
