I temporarily retired the XBX2 (will go to the son)...
So I upgraded to:
Gigabyte GA-X38-DQ6 (from the BX2) latest BIOS installed (F6B)
E6850 (from E6600 @ 3.2G)
MSI 8800 GT (From EVGA 8800 GTS 640)
4G G.Skill PC 8000 DDR2 (From 2G Corsair XMS2)
Vista Ultimate 64bit (from Ultimate 32bit) clean install
OK... I installed the new MB and hardware. Tried to boot my old 32bit install and it didn't work (as expected). I installed a new Seagate 320G and installed Vista64bit with the drive connected to the Gigabyte RAID controller in IDE mode (wasn't paying attention), to my suprise No F6 driver install was required and it was actually a flawless install. I then installed all of the Gigabyte drivers and moved the Seagate drive to port 0 on the ICH9, still no apparent problem, the system boots fine, runs fine, feels snappier however I have notice two issues.
1) The new Seagate (it's an SATAII drive) is showing up under the Intel Matrix Storage Manager as operating as a "generation 1 SATA transfer mode" drive. My old drive connected to the E-Sata bracket is Gen 2. Both drives are the same model number so I'm confused there...
2) My 3dMark score with the new system is 10871, which isn't a problem but my Vista performance index on graphics is a 1.0 (WTF???). I initially installed the Nvidia 169.12 beta drivers and got the 1.0, then I backed down to the 169.02 WHQL drivers figuring that, from what I've read, the 64bit Vista will not allow unsigned drivers to install, but no joy, still a 1.0 rating...
Any ideas? I havent re-installed any games yet but I'm suspecting a driver screwup...
