Asus P5E, Gigabyte GA-X38-dq6, and cooling system

Hi
With all my problems with the BX2, i'm starting to think about getting a new board.
As i had just bought DDR2, i thought about these 2.
My question is : since i have a lian li case, and the board is fixed upside down, is this a problem with the P5E or X38-DQ6 cooling system with pipes ? won't all the heat go right to my southbridge ??
Also, i had a raid5 array on the bx2, will it still be fonctionnal ?
is ICH9R interesting compared to ICH7R ?
And last but not least, will my thermalright Ultra90 fit on these boards ?

I do believe that you are right about the heat going the wrong way and rising to your southbridge with the motherboard inverted.
You might have to get replacement NB/SB/voltage regulator/etc heatsinks if you go with those boards. The trouble is, most high end boards have the heatpipe setup these days, so finding a good board without them is a challenge.
I'm not too sure about the intricacies of RAID, but if you are swapping to a different raid controller on the different board, then I am not hopeful that it will be able to just be swapped over.
As the ultra uses the reference intel 4 push pin mounting, there will be no problems installing the CPU cooler.

finally got myself a X38 DQ6, no problem about the RAID5 (i had to reinstall windows of course, but the rest is OK)
I don't know about the pipe system ... i hope it's going to work properly for a long time, i don't want to change my case !!! plus it's well cooled i hope there won't be any problem ...

Well all you can do is keep an eye on the temperature of the mofsets and northbridge (not sure if there is a sensor in the southbridge), you should have a util with your board that if left running will warn you about overly hot components.

thanks for the advice !
i let my computer run all afternoon, and when i came back, i touched the northbridge and southbridge. They're hot, but i think nothing to be afraid of (i could easily let my finger on them without burning myself, unlike my old i875
)
Then again i don't know if they're supposed to be hot or cool ... mosfets are OK, really cool.
The thing i'm afraid of is that i had a P965 DQ6 before (the first ones), and my raid/ahci stopped working suddenly, hope i won't have the same kind of problem here ...
anyway, if my third core2 mobo burns, i'll keep you informed ^^
i'll try installing the utility to monitor temperatures, just to see !
