When I open a website, in the bottom right corner of my screen a message cycles on and off. " a network cable is unplugged." it only stays on for a second or less.

frequency of the message seems totally random other then it only happens when the comp uses the network.
My comp is connected to a router with 3 other comps on that router and then connected to a cable modem.
I replaced the cable and nic with new ones and went into the system setting and disabled the on board one. none of the other 3 comps on this router have the problem so I swapped places I am plugged to the router with another comp.

I've made sure the power management setting is disabled for the lan card (both on board and add on card).
I've tried 4 different cables(one brand new). 2 are cable that worked fine on other comps for a while.
I've connected the computer directly to the cable modem.(elimitating the router as the problem.)
I've connected the comp to different plugs on the router(not the uplink).

are you actually losing connection when the light comes on (causing the page load to time out, etc) or is it just a random light up? Is the router a 10/100 or is it gigabit? what brand are the router and the card? Have you tried to pull the card and reseat? Have you updated drivers for the card recently (possibly a bad driver, or a bad install)?
