Intel 975 Badaxe2 & 45nm Yorkfield

Hi All,

I wanted to know if Intel is going to make a BIOS update that would allow the new 45nm Yorkfield Procs to run on the Badaxe2 Motherboards.

Unless there is a 1066Mhz FSB Yorkfield variant, I don't think so, as Intel doesn't officially support 1333Mhz FSB on this board.

I think it was this board that a 1333Mhz FSB BIOS was released, but was pulled, for an undisclosed reason.

Actually the BIOS was never pulled. The release notes at one point had claimed support for some 1333 CPU's but was later deleted.

Your best bet if you already own the BX2 would be the Q6600 for bang for buck.

Yeah damn right... but 45 nm+badaxe would be a good favor...

The board prolly won't support any 45nm chips due to power requirements!

Yeah...if you want to pay for DDR3...

Do you want to pay $199 for 2GB of value-priced DDR3? I don't...and performance-grade stuff will set you back $300-400 for a 2GB kit.

Intel released a recent BIOS for the D975XBX2 that touts "additional processor support" but in the usual Intel fashion, doesn't say what that means. One would wish they could at least give a straight answer --but I'm sure they'd rather we bought newer boards. In my case, the D975XBX2 is stable, still fast, and still has a lot of legacy support while being new enough to do what I want. I don't want to switch boards --doesn't mean I don't want to upgrade CPU's though.

I've heard of a few people running E8400's successfully...but nobody who has tried a QX9650 yet.

Gee, i bought an ABIT AW9D MAX, OCZ Reaper 6400 2 Gigz, Q6600 G0...

I just tried an E8400 on my Badaxe 2 with BIOS 2809, and it was a NOGO. Screen simply stayed black. Setting the configure jumper also did not help.

I tried with 2 ram slots filled and with 4. Either way, no beeps, no nothing. :cry:

Did you try it with one? I had a similar problem, one stick worked, any more and it wouldnt post. When i got into the bios i messed about and got it to take 2 sticks. Its just a lot of trying and testing.
