This is a new build. I have set ACPI Suspend State to S3 in the Bios. The CPU fan does not shut off in suspend.
Processor: E6600
Memory: G.SKILL F2-6400PHU2-2GBHZ
Video: Nvidia 7100GS
BIOS: 2802 2007.1024.1947
OS: Windows XP Pro SP2 with all updates
Can anyone offer any ideas?

Using Vista? Vista has low power state issues. Let me correct that Vista has issues. I run it dual boot with XP, but only so I can support customers.

Following is what worked for me (D975XBX2 w/ XP Home SP2, also on DG33TL w/ XPMCE SP2)

By default, Microsoft Windows XP and Microsoft Windows Server 2003 enable a universal serial bus (USB) keyboard and a USB mouse to wake a computer after the computer goes in hibernation. Other types of USB devices can be enabled to wake the computer if you click to select the Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby check box. You can click to select this check box on the Power Management property page in Device Manager.
When a USB device is enabled to wake the computer, the default behavior permits the computer to enter the S1 system power state for standby. Standby is not the S3 system power state. The S1 system power state is a "lighter" system power state than S3. The S1 system power state typically conserves less power than the S3 system power state.
By using the following registry entry, you can override entering the S1 system power state as a default behavior when a USB device is enabled to wake the computer:

wow, nice first post.
Something like that happened to me before on a machine in my house, and I wondered why, and now I know, and a way to fix it.
Thanks ^_^
