For the money and overclocking ease, the Gigabyte P35 DS3L is hard to beat. $89 at Newegg last I checked.

haha that one works. I mean like I don't wanna spend 300 bucks on it. So the e8400 Core2Duo and the Gigabyte would still put me under 300 total. So I think that will be fine. I want something to improve over my amd 3600 @2.8 still. I think that the E8400 is more than enough to show an improvement.

DS3L and E8400 is my intended upgrade path, if the money tree ever blooms. Move my file server guts to a HTPC, Behemoth to the Sonata, and the DS3L/E8400 into the Nine Hundred.

Re: what is a cheap motherboard
probably not a huge difference, but I see it as the logical processor to buy for the move I'm intending. The HTPC is the biggest bonus in the deal, but if I'm going to be moving parts, the DS3L/E8400 running in the Nine Hundred should be able to run at 3.6 or so with no problems. This means another 1800-1900ppd for Folding@Home.hercules71185 wrote:for you will you notice a difference from the e6600 to the e8400?
