Onboard Motherboard Firewire Vs PCI Firewire

Hi there,

I`ve just bought a P4P800D, and it comes with a Firewire Port onboard. Two months ago I bought the Pinnacle PCI Firewire Card thinking I would eventually need it.

Is there any reason/advantage to installing the PCI card when its already on the motherboard? (other than having 3 more ports). I feel wasteful if I don`t use it, and it just sits in the closet....

thanks
Allen

I can't think of any good reasons to keep it off the top of my head. Many users hardly ever use firewire, but it's nice to have one just in case! ;)

Money in hand is always better than hardware loosing its value in the closet!

If you don't use firewire, no point of installing it.

some say oboard is better because theres less latency to the motherboard and it has more bandwidth, maybe theres some truth in that, lets say 1% or 2% extra performance, not visible to real world performance....

On board is just as good as pci most of the time. You might seem higher cpu usage but thats about all. Sell the firewire card get your cash back and spend it on the missess :)
