Do you think this is LGA775?

Hi, this is my mobo.

I cant find any information on what socket or anyything it is./

Dell Dimension 5000 . 3 years old.

LGA775 (Apparently?)

prescott 2.8ghz P4 with HT... is my processor.

You may know that dell have them huge heat sinks on their mobos.

Well this is it without the heatsink.

You can see the screws and where they go ( hint of green)

I was wondering if i could put a normal 775 socket cooler on this.

Thanks you..

it is 775, but dell uses a proprietary cooler, so no, you can't upgrade the cooling

yup, it's LGA775, but no normal cooler will fit that stupid dell design!

Why not replace the motherboard and reinstall your operating system? It wouldn't cost too much more ($50-$60 for motherboard and $20-40 for the heatsink/fan combo) and you would be able to have the possibility of overclocking potential!

You would need to find out what kind of RAM you have in your current system so you could swap it into a compatible replacement board (probably an mATX form factor due to it being a Dell) Is this link pretty close to your system specifications? http://reviews.cnet.com/desktops/dell-d ... mncol;psum

I personally own this Gigabyte GA-73VM-S2 (mATX form factor) board and have overclocked my E6750 to 3.0Ghz on it by merely upping the FSB value just using the stock Intel HSF with decent temperatures. I know it's a deactivated item but it was just an example.

When I bought that board it was only $54.99 and you could pair a similar board at a similar price with a cost-effective cooler like the Xigmatek HDT-S1293 reviewed here at Legit Reviews.com and on Newegg.com
For $37 it doesn't get too much better than that!
Or for a cheaper route the
If you wanted a cheaper route you could go with the $22.99 Xigmatek HDT-SD964 cooler, but it's a bit smaller and not as efficient, but with Mail In Rebate it would only cost you $13 when all is said and done!

Just some suggestions for you!

***Looking over that spec sheet, you would most likely want to just chuck that RAM anyway and upgrade to a stick of DDR2 667 or DDR2 800 for about $9-$15) since DDR is outdated and finding an LGA 775 motherboard with DDR wouldn't exactly be easy or cost-effective***

Sounds like you could swap out the motherboard quite easily then!

It's a Dell. With all their proprietary sh*t (power supply, case, motherboard, OS license tied to MB), it sounds like you should just replace the machine outright.
Case & 80+ PSU $60~100
AM2+ Motherboard $50~100
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5400+ BE $77
4GB DDR2 800 SDRAM $40~80
Xigmatek HDT-SD964, $23

Should be significantly faster than your current PC. Just re-use your old hard drive, optical drive, etc. Estimated prices aren't for bottom of the barrel parts, either.

They already have an ATI 3650, and most likely aren't interested in spending a ton of money

That my friends is a BTX motherboard, yes no run of the mill cooler will fit it.

even if you bought a new std mATX board it wouldn't fit your case you would need a new case as well.

this is what a BTX cooler looks like

Did yours die or are you looking for a better one?

The Dell boxes I have here that are of this style are big heat sinks with fans in front. I have had to replace the fans in some of them, but never the sink itself.

My work desktop is a 5150 (not a lot different from yours), recently I had to reinstall the system due the fact I dump 44oz of Dr. Pepper into the front vent (which is conveniently directly over the hard drive). It was a little sluggish until I stripped off all the Dell crud after the reinstall. The rest of the system Pent D 2.8 gHz, 2gb ram, new 250 hard drive, ATI X300 vid card.

Drop another gig of ram into it for 40-50 bucks see what happens.

Also if you didn't redo the thermal paste when you stuck your cooler back on it will run hot and thus slow WAY down.

Our resident Englishman DMB2000uk is quite the helping hand, so I'm sure he'll chime in here soon :D

You called? :finga:

If you want a new machine and have a budget that you want to spend fordmayhem, I could price you up the best combination of parts from some UK etailers.
