Abit AW9D-MAX

Post by Keda_P »

Hi everybody.
I have an Abit Aw9d-Max mainboard and unlucky q6600 stepping g0.
I want to buy e8400 for my board but i'm not sure if it will work.
There are C0 and E0 steppings for the e8400.

Please can anybody tell me if it will work? anybody tested it?

I have used the C0 version of the E8400 with my AW9D-MAX successfully without any problems.

You will however need to use BIOS version 16 (Bios Date:2008/01/15) or better for it to recognise, so be sure to flash the mobo with a working CPU first.

Abit have tested the E0 stepping here, and have found it not to work with this board.

If you have access to the boxes of the CPU before you buy them, then look at the following sticker on the E8400 box (this is for a PD805, but you get the idea):

You need the last five letters (highlighted on the pic) to be 'SLAPL' for a C0 stepping. Good luck in trying to find the processor you need!

First of all thanks.
By the link that you gave me it seems like they are still testing it ....
Anyways the E0 stepping is much better than the C0 and Abit discontinued their
support for my board and this is bad and disappointing.

I have an opportunity to test e8400 E0 and E8200 C0 in the next few days.
Then i will give out the info here, if it is any of an interest to anybody anyway :).

In the mean time do NOT buy q6600 stepping: G0 for this board it causes alot of BSODs and Restarts.
Cya ppl.

'Test' means it has been checked, and the '一' according to the key at the bottom of the chart shows:
一:Not Support
OK*:Due to BIOS size only 4m, not enough to support half factor.
So you will probably have much the same result as with your G0 Q6600.

Still the "Result" column states "Test" and not "-" like it is for the 9xxx cpu.
Dont let me loose my hope ! [-X

Tried the e8400 rev e0 on AW9D-Max Bios 1.7
NO BOOT !
It Powers up and after 2-3 seconds Shuts Down.
