Cheap OC with a Q9300

Post by stopthekilling77 »

Title pretty much sums it up really, I'm looking for suggestions on a cheap-ish motherboard to upgrade to so I can get a good OC out of a Q9300.
Bummer that my ASUS board doesn't support the 45nm quads... Oh well.

What do you consider "cheapish?" I picked up a Gigabyte EP45-UD3P and had pretty good luck clocking my Q9450 to 3.6 without doing a whole lot. It's around $140 and many consider it to be in the top 3 of quad overclocking boards.
The UD3P is a dual PCI-E board, if you don't need two video cards you could go with a UD3R for $20 cheaper.

I don't want a very expensive board, but I do need something that is as overclocking friendly as I can get without pushing $200. Whatever I get should be backwards compatible with my DDR2 800 right?
I was thinking something along the likes of Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3R or this ASUS P5Q Pro

I WAS thinking it would be nice to go SLI since the prices of the G92 GTS 512s have come down but that looks like an impossibility with all the crossfire boards instead of SLI ones.

Well I've never been let down by ASUS before :P but I like Gigabyte too.
If I can find a good deal on the Q6600 I may just STFU and go with 65nm... Then go watercooling, which is the inevitable next step.

This is a much better board than the DS3R, and some say better than the Asus, all at the same price.

Quite nice specs on it, TBH I was looking at the Open Box boards, but that's a great price for a well-reviewed board. I'll definitely put that on my short list.
