BX2 Issue

Hey there,

It's been a while since I've posted but here we go. 2 days ago my system wouldn't post no beep codes although I had power as the fans, GPU etc were all firing up. After troubleshooting I found that the system would post if I removed one set of RAM (2BG). Anyway all was good as I can to the conclusion that the set of RAM was faulty and it was RMA time. Anyway last night I shut the system down and low and behold it again wouldn't boot. So I troubleshooted yet again and took one stick of memory out (of the remaining good set) and the only way I can get the system to boot is with one stick of RAM in slot #1. Now does this sound like a failed motherboard or am I missing something? Full system spec are in my sig.

Thanks,

John

It's possible that the motherboard is bad..in all honesty I had the same thing happen...the only way that I came to that it was the motherboard was buy a new one..i didn't go all out like i did with the bad board(im upgrading anyway) but when i ran MemTest on each stick of Ram with no errors, that pretty much confirmed it..weirder is it still boots with the 2 slots filled but not all 4 on the old board....Short answer..try a new motherboard..and if it helps, i spent only $100-$120 on mine so it won't be all that expensive since im sure there are less expensive ones too. That and you can return it if it turns out to be somethin else

Just to update the post and not leave it as an unresolved topic.

My second set of memory suffered the same fate a few days later. I now have both sets of memory on their way back to Crucial. They told me that they have recently changed the memory and it no runs at 2.0v instead of 2.2v due to failures. I have however got myself a nice set of G Skill 2 x 2gb sticks (F2-6400CL4D-4GBPI-B). They are quite the sticks that's for sure and yes the heat sinks are massive and do their job well, as an extra bonus they run great at 1.8v @ 4.4.4.12. Needless to say the issue was memory related and not the motherboard as first suspected.
