AOpen ATX Pentium M motherboard -- i915Ga-HFS

Post by Fogey »

It's a start in the right direction to move the Pentium M to the desktop market. Some of the reviews as of late, the Pentium M does well agaisnt AMD and Intels top CPU chips for desktops, when it comes to gaming.

If this motherboard can perform well and not priced too high it should be pretty sweet!

man i hope thats just newegg charging a premium because if its really 300 its not worth it in any shape or form, its just a standard motherboard with a different socket, with the 855 chipset i could kinda understand it as intel was charging alot for it but this is just a 915 chipset nothing specile.

well the one at the egg is using a moblie 915 and Matx the one he is talking about is full atx and a non-mobile chipset. I just saw the one he posted about. If its still that price hell no. Do a search on pricewatch or pricegrabber for the one i listed i bet newegg is the cheapest for that board(LOL).

The one I was making reference to was for a full size MB for ATX. AOpen has two other MB's for the micro ATX . The boards for now are way to much money, but I'm hopeful this will open up a new niche market for the Pentium M for the socket 479. Another arena to play in. If the prices come down, I want to build one for a winter project come Nov/Dec. Just got done with a AMD FX-55 system. Alas, it's almost Summer time and I need to enjoy the warmth of the late Spring sun while it lasts. Ahhhh, the alure of computing, always searching, looking for that something different and special. Thanks

A few stores now have the AOpen i915GMm-HFS board listed for sale. Check out the prices RIGHT HERE...

Pricing is DOWN to $285 for the motherboard now. Newegg raised their prices up to $320! :(

even if it were cheaper, i dont think i'd buy it. i'd rather have a full atx. i'd be too afraid of breaking something on the micro board if i had to pull out a power cable from a drive or my gpu or something

besides, i like having room between pci slots.

Let us know how well it works. I'm still waiting on the full size ATX one from them. Not sure when they will release it. They hype it up, then all goes quite.
I don't know if I'll be able to wait till Nov/Dec time frame to build one.

audiophile: I get the impression Zap and Ralphunter missed your point about
AOpens new Full size ATX MB for the Pentium M.

It arrived! I put the AOpen HSF next to a retail boxed Intel LGA 775 HSF for a size reference... The HSF is smaller than my DFI 855GME boards HSF and as you can tell you can't mount another heatsink to it with out some heavy mods. I'm going to LA for meetings starting on the 25th to 29th, so I won't be able to power it up for a week :(

The DFI 855GME offers single channel DDR1 memory (yes, it has two slots, but is single channel) and the AGP slot is 4x and not AGP 8x. Remember it is running on the notebook 855GM chipset!
