DG965RY - No SATA option in BIOS

Hi....
My Vista recently crashed and gives a STOP: 0x0000007B error which to my current information is related to AHCI and SATA issues. I read on several forums that this issue can be resolved by resetting the Drive config in BIOS to Legacy and IDE and to reboot which would then bypass the BSoD but when I check the options in BIOS I only get IDE and no option for SATA or RAID or anything else. Despite all this, the system still detects my Barracuda 500GB SATA on SATA Slot 0.
My question: does anyone have the faintest idea what's going on? And how do I add the SATA option to BIOS? Oh...and did I mention that I cannot get into Windows since it keeps crashing 10 sec into startup? And yes, I have tried all recovery options including Startup Recovery, Restore, chkdsk and Memory Diagnostics. Nothing seems to work.
My mobo is the Intel DG965RY running the latest version of BIOS.
