Hi folks,
I have an existing wd raptor 150 as my main drive running vista ultimate and have just installed a new wd raptor 300 which I wish to use as my main drive with windows 7 ultimate when it arrives!
I would like to use the original wd 150 as a storage option although I do have an external HD also for storage.
At present the system shows non raid for both and I am a bit confused in setting it all up :?
I have briefly looked at the storage manager page (cntrl-I) at start and also the manual (RTFM)
but would appreciate a little guidance as to what might be best way forward without me screwing things up
I see the storage manager offers options but I wondered if theres an obvious one
Can anyone shed a little light - - wisdom?
I would very much appreciate it.
Thanks.

From the way you've described it, I don't believe you want to run RAID. What you'll want to do is disconnect your 150gb drive and install 7 on your new drive. Once that is complete, shutdown your system and reconnect your old drive, and boot up on the new drive. Then you'll be able to copy over all of your important files to the new drive. Once you get everything off of the old one, then you could simply reformat it in storage manager.

If you RAID them, they basically turn into one disk drive, and you'd lose half of the capacity of your new 300GB!

Hope this helps!

Woops that wasnt what I had in mind
I really was not aware of that and thought raid was a speedy variation so thank you for your advice 8)
I have the 300 raptor hooked up but as its not recognised at boot and I thought that it had to be a raid arrangement for it to do so.
Yeah - I was really intending to have the 150 raptor for storage - - btw storage manager? not familiar with it - - havent done a lot lately as you can tell

Regards and thanks again.
