EVGA P55 LE 123-LF-E653-KR

Post by Resnik »

So I've got the itch again to build a new gaming machine... about a year and a half ago I build a budget based rig.
E8400/ EVGA 132-CK-NF78/ XFX G92 Cored 8800 GTS XXX/ 4 Gigs of Mushkin DDR2 1066.

Basically, Over the past year I've come to terms with some of the mistakes I made during the building process of my first self build gaming computer.
Among those was purchasing a TRI-SLI Mobo.. Spending the boot on 2 extra PCI-e Slots when I'd never use them was rather foolish, but I suppose my eyes were bigger than my wallet. :)

Either way, This go around I'm looking to build something more powerful, And yet streamlined budget wise.. Certain deals are just go good to pass up, where was spending an extra $200 on a CPU may not be in the best interest of the build.

Back up the topic.

I've been looking for a Motherboard to base this build off of, and I've determined that a single GPU solution will be my best bet, considering the power of the current GPU's on the market.
I've had an excellent experience with my current EVGA Board.

There are a couple of reason I've come to this board over some of its competitors at this point, the fact that it has HeatSink mounting holes for my 775 Socket Xigmatek S1283 is rather appealing, and the on-board Bridge heatsinks from my perspective seem to be more beefy than the sinks offered on some of the other boards aswell...
I will overclock my CPU at some point in time, on Air, and I know from tinkering with my 780i How handy it is to have larger heatsinks I.E bolting on 30MM fans and such.

Anyway, I'm an open minded consumer, I've done some research down the Asus road aswell, and they have a few extremely well built boards also, just looking for a little input.
Thanks again LR!

In my opinion, you should probably avoid Nvidia boards, or any boards with nvidia chipsets as they don't overclock as well. I would look into Gigabyte or Asus boards with Intel chipsets. Hopefully that will get you started and someone else can help you hone in a bit better.

I like asus boards aswell, thanks for the insight.

I thought the EVGA board had a Intel P55 North bridge Chipset.
Or am I misunderstanding your post?

Also, do you have any suggestions as to what board you'd recommend?
I'm looking at an i5-750 CPU.
