i have the D975XBX2 MB with 4 1GB sticks of Corsair RAM. when i went from 2 1GB sticks to 4 i thought that i bought the exact same thing but didn't and had a heck of a time until i figured out that i the new two weren't EXACTLY the same. i want to get 2 2GB sticks for channels 1&3 and hopefully keep cahnnels 2&4 with the 1GB sticks until i can get two more 2GB sticks. will this work??? since this in now a little older of a MB there aren't many tested RAM modules on the Intel MB support site so how do i know what will work? has anyone here put 2 GB sticks in their D975XBX2? what kind and what EXACT part number if you would please. I saw this on N**E** and it SEEMS like a match but i am not sure.
CORSAIR XMS2 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Desktop Memory Model TWIN2X4096-6400C5C - Retail .

any help would be much appreciated.

i've been searching N**E** for RAM and have found lots of DDR2 240pin DDR2 800 PC2800 RAM from different companies and ever the Corsair has 5 or 6 sticks that meet this criteria.. how is one to know which of these will work???
thanks

well this memory is listed on Intel site as "tested memory"
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000FGD3WQ/?ta ... pai87cr2_b

these are the specs:

The board has four DIMM sockets and supports the following memory features:

1.8 V and 1.9 V DDR2 SDRAM DIMMs
Unbuffered, single-sided or double-sided DIMMs with the following restriction: Double-sided DIMMs with x16 organization are not supported.
8 GB maximum total system memory
Minimum total system memory: 128 MB
ECC DIMMs and Non-ECC DIMMs
Serial Presence Detect
DDR2 800, DDR2 667, and DDR2 533 MHz SDRAM DIMMs

I would say that any kits from Newegg that fits in line with these should work- I have used Patriot, G.skill, Cosair memory kits all with no problems

I've used this Corsair XMS PC6400 with no issues:

I've also used this Kingston HyperX PC6400 with no problems:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/NewProduc ... 6820104073

Right now I'm using this G.Skill PC8500 (easier to OC than PC6400) with no complaints:

I've never been able to get my XBX2 to work with 4 - 1GB sticks, even when they were matched sticks. Sometimes it wouldn't boot and if it did boot it was very unstable.

I am using these without any problems
G.SKILL F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK PC2-8500 4GB 2X2GB DDR2-1066 CL5-5-5-15 240PIN Dual Channel Memory Kit

Once the system is stable (Overclocking a Q6600 and will be trying my luck with a QX6850 as well) I will try and use 4 x 2GB for 8GB total (but for now running fine with a 4GB kit)

I have two other BadAxe2 machines running with four 1GB sticks fine (for years) but I do know that these boards are not as stable when all 4 slots are filled (and I have even heard of a few folks having memory get fried when moving up to 4 slots ..)
It has been awhile since I configured the 4x1GB systems but if someone wants more info I will look into the BIOS settings etc.

i know that when i went from the 2 1gb sticks of ram to 4 of them i had a lot of stability problems but the second sticks of 1gb RAM that installed were not EXACTLY a match for the first 2. when i got the exact same match the system has worked fine and stable for years now. What is in there now and working fine is: Corsair MEM 1Gx2Corsair Twin2x2048-6400 R. When i added the MEM 1gx2/Cor 240P Twin2x2048-6400C4 is when things went crazy, atomatic re-booting, crashes and other instability. as soon as i removed the c4 and installed two more sticks of the R everything was perfecto...
