I would like to know if using core's i5-661 (or any other clarkdale) intregrated graphic, I can use the two pci-e slots 16x (in 8x mode) of a H57 motherboard ( Asus P7H57D-V EVO) to run 2x 3ware (LSI) 9750SA-8I pci-e 8x RAID cards. Extensible to any other H57 motherboard.


I've read many times you can't use both PCIE 8x for graphic cards with i5-661 integrated GPU enabled. But what about non graphic stuff?

I'm quite sure you will have to choose integrated graphics or a discrete graphics solution, not both. It's either onboard or a card regardless of the task. It's a limitation of the chipset.

There are no chipset limitations preventing you from doing this. I've read posts of people using RAID cards using the Intel H5x motherboards. I don't know about motherboard limitations, though. You might try to check the manual for that ASUS mobo.

Scratch that. I think there might actually be some problems. Still need to read the Core i-series specifications for details.

I've read the manual and consulted intel documentation/forums, but only talks about pci-e graphic card installation. So it clearly says you can:
- integrated: OFF
- pci-e 16x GRAPHIC_0: ON

or:
- integrated: OFF
- pci-e 8x GRAPHIC_0*: ON
- pci-e 8x GRAPHIC_1*: ON
*sli

It is sure you cannot:
- integrated: ON
- pci-e 16x GRAPHIC_0: ON

but nobody talks about the possibility of:
- integrated: ON
- pci-e 8x ANY_NONGRAPHIC_DEVICE_0
- pci-e 8x ANY_NONGRAPHIC_DEVICE_1

Yep. Barely anything about this. From reading the Core i3/i5/Pentium G6950 Data Sheet (1.2.2), though, I think it might not be supported. Need to step up to a server/workstation board (Intel 3400 series) to get 2x PCIe x8 any I/O.

True, I finally got a reply on intel's forums. If 2pcie used (any kind) --> no integrated graphics.

Yes I'll go for a 3420, an asus, because supports i5-750. No HT, ok. But low power, 4 cores, and intel "cheap".
