Here's my question... Why even bother with the PCI slot? At least give me something useful like a 1x PCIe slot.

more people than you would think have a use for a PCI slot- and you can just use one of the PCIe x16 slots as 1x.. if you have 3 or 4 gpus you wouldn't have room for any expansion cards anyway, so you'd have to have an open PCIe x16 slot anyway (and theres a PCIe 1x above the top x16 slot too...)
