HELP!!!!! My pc is stuttering. Realized the problem when I was playing back music through iTunes, then I realized that the problem had nothing to do with iTunes. The problem seems to occur when I use either of the 2 dvd players, and it seems to be random. It even happens in games or even playing spider solitaire. I am running XP pro.

Welcome to the Forums!

Are you using onboard sound or an add-in sound card of some kind?
Do you have the appropriate drivers installed?

At this point I am not sure the problem is limited to just sound. I noticed some hesitation with the mouse certain times (no patern) which is at the same as the sound problem. I went back to the original dound drivers but the problem still exists. Any ideas? This is very anoying, I can't listen to any music through iTunes.
Thanks

I have the same problem with my system (see sig)....it's slowing down majorly, and will be replaced soon, one way or another.

Asus P5DG2 premium, Intel p4 3.0 ghz, 2 GB memory, 2 200 WD sata drives mirrored, 1 Hitachi dvd/dc rom, one Sony dvd rw, ultra 500 W ps., running xp pro
I Build this pc back in February and it has been running fine until about 2 to 3 weeks ago. The asus probe alarm went off on a chassis fan. I cleaned all the fans, temps appear fine, voltage is running at: 12.51, 5.22, 3.40, 1,42 (constant). I have updated drivers for the built in sound card (cmedia) with no help. The sound appears to be getting stuck (2 to 3 seconds) almost like stuttering. I first noticed when I tried loading Santana's latest cd into iTunes where I thought the cd was defective. It plays fine on my home cd and car.

sounds to me iTunes is either corrupt, or it corrupted your sound driver.....have you tried other media apps like Media Player, or playing music from the Internet? I would try that, and if that doesn't work right, then I would be inclined to say iTunes screwed something up...wouldn't surprise me a bit

PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!! Finally I found the problem and I was able to recreated it. Apparently some new cd's include drm software and one of these is MediaMax. It came on the Santana cd (all that I am). The interesting thing is that no where on my pc I can see this softaware installed not even trough control panel. After I re-installed the sound drivers from the original cd and try playing the Santana cd it came up with a MediaMax error saying it could not validate license. After that I found th MediaMax website (http://www.sunncomm.com) and through there I found an un-install link and that fixed my problem. I guess I need to stay away from new cd's.

Wow, that's a bunch of crap. Frickin DRM crap. There has been too many issues with all that lately (mostly Sony/BMG).
Glad you got the problem fixed though! I'll keep that in mind for the future.
