Failing Motherboard question ???

Posted: Tue May 24, 2011 6:29 pm
I recently noticed one of my computers had to be booted a few times before the video would come on. I took out the graphics card and switched to the on-board video. System booted up fine for a few days. While system was on, video goes dead. System only started in safe mode, then would not start at all. I switched to another computer, video goes dead on that system. Bought a new monitor, which is working fine. Other system is still dead, will not boot.

Questions:

1. Could the system that first failed have damaged the old monitor ? or is it just a coincidence ?

2. The failed system's fans will come on, but nothing else. Any comments?

Greatly appreciated.
Pete

have you tried to see if the video card works? also can you check the CPU and memory from the non working computer in another computer? it could be a motherboard but we need to eliminate all possibilities.

Thanks,

No way to test those. This may be a tech-shop job. Theres a local guy pretty trust worthy. Maybe I should have him test everything before I go buying and changing parts ?

good luck to you, at this point it could be the CPU memory or motherboard.
