$1000 or so budget, Pentium D 830 + what mobo?

I know the LR contest gives me an ECS 945P-A mobo. But that motherboard, AFAIK, doesn't do CrossFire or SLI, which I want in my next rig. So, starting with ONE videocard and a different mobo (the ECS one = fileserver at some later date), what should I do? All I have is the processor, everything else remains to be purchased. If you don't think I can do the proc justice on that budget, give me a new suggested target and tell me what you think I should put in. I'm an AMD person, so I really have no clue...

Since the board doesn't have what you desire i suggest getting an Intel 955X chipset motherboard. I really like the ASUS P5WD2 series because they are overclocking champs and support xfire. You should be able to get great O/C results with that mobo and the 830 processor. With air cooling you should easily get 3.6-3.8GHz if luck is on your side.

Make sure you invest in a good power supply with good 12v rails!!!

The board Apop mentiond is the boad to get for Intel....

the non-premium can be got here from $160

the premium can bet got here from $200

Your better off waiting to get the GFX cards last.....ATI are roumored to have their nex-gen cards out by end of Jan!

i'm just going to use the ecs motherboard until i'm ready for sli. something tells me it wouldn't be a good idea to pay big bucks for an upgrade at this point in the year (especially with my current life-screws-me situtation).

Or I could get nF4, I just thought of that, since I'm an nV phanboy and because SLI is better (from what benchmarks I have seen) than CrossFire...
