I've had this mobo for 2/3 years and I've kept it through several compuiter upgrades. In my latest upgrade I got a new case which has USB 3.0 front panel ports which I've connected to the USB 2.0 header on the mobo using an adapter cable. Neither port works. I started using my USB 3.0 ports for the first time about a month ago and discovered that my USB 3.0 ports on the mobo are working intermittently-- I had my mouse plugged into one and spent a week trying to figure out why the mouse would freeze now and then. Finally figured out my USB 3.0 port was losing power.

Does anyone know if Intel fixed this problem with a BIOS update or something, or am I stuck with it like it is? I like the board a lot except for this problem.

You could try a BIOS update, but if it is losing power it could be a bad connection in the port itself or the device plugged into it, or it can be that the ports are failing. if you are using a Pinout header for USB and that isn't working either I would re-install drivers, and if they still don't work, i'd RMA the motherboard if possible, or replace depending if you want to spend the money

Check here first and see what you find. My conclusion is that Intel branded boards are rock solid at stock settings but anything beyond that it's hit or miss.

Alternative things to try:
Look for an updated USB 3.0 driver. If you don't know what you are using download HWiNFO and see which chipset it is.

I know the USB 3.0 chipset on my motherboard has had a couple driver updates and one firmware update since I bought the board.

Thanks for the responses. Well, I found the problem with my front USB 3.0 ports. When I got the adapter cable I didn't have my glasses with me so my 20 year old grandson plugged the cable in for me after looking at the picture in the manual. When I got back in the room the case was closed up, so I tried aknown good thumbdrive which didn"t work. I had other things to do so just ignored it. Yeasterday I opened the case to check the filters and fans and saw the adapter cable plugged into the firewire port. I moved it and the front ports are now fine.

The 3.0 ports on the mobo are another story. I found several threads when I did a long Google search that mention the problem. One guy posted that he had been trying different BIOS's and corresponding with Intel engineers. In his last post he said engineers replicated the problem and were trying to find a fix. He listed a lot of the BIOS' he tried and their various problems, so I'm staying with the BIOS I have. I have never upgraded a BIOS unless I knew it would solve an issue I was having.

My drivers are all current except for NVIDEA. I'm happy with the drivers I have so will not upgrade them.
