Full availability of 915 motherboards not till late July!

Although Intel has resumed deliveries of 915 chipsets, full availability of 915 motherboards in the channel is not expected until late July, according to sources at Taiwanese motherboard vendors.

In addition, the actual number of defective 915 chipsets might be higher than was previously estimated, which would delay production ramps at local motherboard makers, said the sources.

The chip defect has also affected the supply of DDR2 chips and PCI Express graphic cards as related makers have slowed their production or capacity ramps amid weakened confidence over the 915 chipsets, the sources claimed.

It is “regrettable,” said Jonney Shih, chairman of Asustek Computer, Taiwan’s largest motherboard maker, while commenting that the impact of the chip defect on global motherboard sales will be limited.

However, other motherboard vendors are now looking for sequential sales growth of 10-15% in the third quarter, down from the previously estimated 15-20%, as demand in the channel is likely to be weighed down, according to the sources. Demand from PC OEMs should remain strong, however.

I wonder how this will play out along with all the other components, such as like mentioned, PCI Express.

This could be a very bad start for something like PCI-e (I think that's the abbreviation, lol). It would be sad for something like that which seems to hold some nice potential to get pushed over, but perhaps it may also push towards new technology which may surpass that as well...I guess we'll have to wait and see.
