Intel 975X chipset mobo's and 7950GX2 vidcard compatability

Post by Slick »

I've recently jumped the gun, purchased an ASUS P5WD2-E Premium ATX LGA775 975X DDR2 PCI-E16 SATA RAID Crossfire Sound GBLAN 1394 Motherboard, and an EVGA 7950GX2 videocard. Apparently, there is no support for the mobo to recognize the PCIe switch that Nvidia uses on the GX2 series boards, even though that is part of the PCIe standard. I know this is a longshot, but does anyone have any idea if there will soon be a BIOS update from ASUS or INTEL to address this issue with the 975X chipset? :|

That would be a problem that Asus needs to fix. Intel 975x chipset will work with 7950 no problem as I have the Intel Bad Axe going strong with it.

Yes, will have to get info from Asus I guess. I'll post here again when I get some sort of answer from them. Could RMA the Asus board for the Intel board..., but was under the impression could overclock better with Asus board. We shall see after I get the answer from Asus.

ASUS needs to update their BIOS on their 975X based boards and it should work.

A list of boards with the updated BIOS can be found here: http://www.nvidia.com/content/geforce_gx2_sbios/us.asp

I tried the reference 7950GX2 on the Asus P5WD2 Premium with bios 0709 and ForceWare 91.33 and found it to be nearly 100% stable.

Are you using the beta 91.33 drivers and the latest drivers?

I haven't even peiced the machine together after I found out about this issue. So, no Apoptosis, I am not using any drivers at the moment, heh. I guess my question to you is, do your benchmarks reflect a system utilizing BOTH gpu's. That is are they high enough, say in 3dmark, so you are definitely satisfied that the BIOS is recognizing and utilizing both GPU"s?

While I had the card (Brian Wallace has it now for article use) it was running as expected for the 7950 on that board.
