Hey, right I got this computer yesterday, unfortunately gotta wait til Thursday to get a graphics card in it.

Here is the basic spec.
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
1024MB DDR2 667MHz Dual Channel
MSI Intel 975X Chipset

Right my question is if I do go about overclocking this I only wanna from about 2.4 to 2.8, is it possible with the mobo and RAM I've got? And will it be at a comfortable temperature?

the processor and motherboard should be able to do over 3GHz. The memory doesn't seem to have a brand name, so it looks like it is going to be generic memory, but for a mild overclock of 2.4 to 2.8 I don't think you will have a problem. You can always lower the memory divider to reduce the frequency of the memory if it becomes unstable with the front side bus speed increase.

Let us know what happens when the video card arrives and if you can take pictures do it!

Cheers for the info! Card came early than expected, so should have it done by tonight, it's gotta get collected from a warehouse because no one was home. I'll tell ya the results and get pictures!

Unfortunately we've run into some problems. When the graphics card came (8800 GTX) a power cable was missing, it has a "6" power plug on the graphics card for power, only a 3 was supplied, box was already opended as they did that thing were they put free games in, must of fallen out. I'm annoyed, the GFX card won't run without the other cable will it?

Your power supply should have a PCIe connector on it already no?
I think only one is supplied since most psu's have at least one already.

I dunno if it will work with one, I wouldn't try esp. if your psu hasn't a pcie cable. The power draw will be too high on either the psu directly or on the motherboard.

I have another query though, when I'm installing things is the computer supposed to lag? When I have music going it starts to slow down really badly, and the computer just basically lags, any ideas? It to do with the HDD? Memory?

shouldn't be laggy with that setup... be sure to run CPU-Z 1.38 to make sure the CPU and memory are running at the right speeds and timings!

Yea all is alright now, it seems my DVD Reader (on an IDE slot) doesn't read discs properly, it reads them, but it lags the whole computer out. My Serial ATA is perfect, no lag or anything.

I'll run CPU-Z to check it all out.

Looks good on the CPU front, but you might want to see about increasing the memory from 667MHz to 800MHz in the BIOS. Granted this would be overclocking your memory, but it might work as most DDR2 modules can run that fast at CL5 timings... worth a shot though and if you have to increase the voltage from 1.8 to 2.0 Volts then so be it!

Sounds good, how do I increase the memory clock? Bit of a newb when it comes to that as I've never clocked memory before, only CPU.

edit: Nvm, I got it, memory is running @ 800MHZ with voltage @ 1.9.

Nothing's gone wrong to suggest it's unstable yet, I'm gonna go play a couple games, see what happens. :D
