D975XBX2 keeps rebooting when I touch the computer case.

Post by muell »

I have a D975XBX2 motherboard in a lian li PC-A10 aluminum case and ocassionaly when I touch the side of the case the computer will just restart. I though it might be some type of intrusion detection but its disabled in the bios. Does anyone have any Ideas what this might be?

WOW

ok which side of the case do you touch for it to restart, the side where the MB is mounted? If so then I would say you need some better spacers, papers, something in between the MB and the case itself.

If it is the other side, then I would be thinking a short somewhere or the case intrusion. I woudl remove the side panel and see if touching anywhere else around the side panel makes a difference.

its not the side that the motherboard is on. I looked at the motherboard and there is a entrusion detection header. Should I remove this? I thought disabling it in the bios would be enough.

I you actually have a cable hooked up to it, i would unplug it and try touching the case to make sure that is the problme.

If it is, just let it unplugged :) Intrusion detection is kinda wierd anyway for home use

Heh, I had a problem similar to this, only sometimes the comp would restart on its own, not just if you touched the case. It was just in its basic metal frame though, and the switches and lights were hanging out of a hole. The reset switch was occasionally transmitting its signal when the two spokes it used touched the metal case.

I think I may have found the problem. The power button on my case doesnt actually have to be pressed to work you just slide your finger over it and it turns on. Im not sure how this works but I think me touching the case is making the power swith turn on/off. Maybe Im sending a small static charge through the case to the button. I have been trying to touch metal on my desk to ground myself than touch the case and I havent been able to get it to reboot.
