Hi everyone
I am new here and also in the osx86 world but I want to build one. Over their forum (
http://forum.insanelymac.com) there is at least one user using Intel Bad Axe 2 with Xeon 3050 but people from Intel told me this:
"The Intel® motherboard D975XBX2 does not support the Intel® Xeon® 3050, however, the Intel® Server Workstation board S975XBX2 does support that processor. For a list of support processors for the Intel® S975XBX2 Workstation board, please see the following URL:
http://www.intel.com/support/motherboar ... 023536.htm "
Would you guys please give me an advise, what type of MB should I buy (since I already bought an Xeon 3050).
Thanks,
Sorin

Sorin,
Welcome to the forums and I've asked Intel to provide me with a list of the differences between the two. When I was looking at their site I found this.
http://www.intel.com/cd/channel/reselle ... /index.htm
If you look really close you'll notice the description under features talks about the S975XBX2 and not the D975XBX2 that it's supposed to talk about.
Isn't that funy?

Should I believe it's just a typo? Neah.
Please keep me posted with their answer.
Thanks!

Differences between the BX2 desktop SKU and the workstation SKU are:
1. BX2 is black, w/s is green
2. no overclocking on w/s
3. dolby 7.1 audio on BX2, 5-ch basic audio on w/s
4. no cool heatsinks on w/s
5. TPM and AMT on the w/s SKU; not on BX2

Great chip

Tech Level Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 day to 1 week
Pros: running stable at 3.4ghz @ 1.375v. My air cooling is limiting me from using higher voltage. I was able to boot at 465mhz fsb (3.7ghz), but then my RAM limited me.
Cons: none
Other Thoughts: more expensive than the e6400, but well worth it for the lower voltage. Running on a Biostar TForce965PT, Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro, and Geil ddr2-800 ram. With better cooling and ram, I could go much higher.

Tech Level Tech Level: high - Ownership: less than 1 day
Pros: This CPU is IDENTICAL to the E6400, as the 3040 Xeon is IDENTICAL to the E6300. There are not voltage differences.
Cons: Slightly more expensive than desktop version, but worth it for official "support" in Workstation/Server systems.
