well that answers that.

Q NO. 2) chipset drivers installed with the installation cd are v. 7.2.2.1007, dated 2/27/2006. now, the intel site for the d975xbx2 support
links to a recent version of 8.1.1.1010 dated 11/1/2006. however, the header in the read me does not list the 975x chipset, here is a cut and paste of that header. is it not applicable and an error on intels end?

* Product: Intel(R) Chipset Software Installation Utility
* Release: Production
* Version: 8.1.1.1010
* Target Chipset(s)#: Q963/Q965/P965/G965 and 3000/3010/3100 and 5000 Series
* Date: November 08 2006

it IS applicable! always all chipsets are supported. i think this "Target Chipset(s)" just means it now supports those newer chipsets too.
