D975XBX2 power question

Post by Sailtough »

Just finished setting up my system. Decided on the MOBO as I was sure I could build upon it over the next couple years.

Currently as a Pentium D 920 2.8Ghz processor and 2 X Ultra 512MB PC4200 DDR2 533MHz of memory with 2 X Seagate 320GB Serial ATA HD 7200/16MB/SATA-3G and a basic 8mb video card to start with. Power supply is an Ultra v series 500 watt. All the above came from Tigerdirect.com

A pretty basic set up but one I can use with pleasure, lot faster than the dinosaur I had before.

The manual states that one should not use the 2 X 2 to 2 X 4 converter if running an extreme series processor or on one that is not running according to specs. The only options I have from my power supply are the 2 X 2 and 2 x 3 plugs. How can I safely take the next steps i.e. over clocking with existing power supply. Can I rewire for the 2 X 4 plug option or are Intel's warnings just like their be careful and not cut yourself text?

Thanks

J
