Intel has released BIOS Update 2634 for Intel D975XBX2 users. It fixes a number of issues related to Vista and th Serial/Parallel ports.

New Fixes/Features:
- Added support for ACPI Serial Port Console Redirection (SPCR) table for AMT SOL.
- Added support for Windows Vista* Media Center OCUR Host Firmware Support.
- Added fix for ITK where Parallel Port is always hidden.
- Added fix for Windows Vista* where EBIOSPost.exe had error while returning EBU status.

The delay/hang with THIS SPECIFIC BIOS settings is still NOT fixed!

Here we go again

I just replaced my IDE internal CDRW and DVD Rom as they were very old, 7 and 5 years respectively, with an external USB DVD burner from Liteon.

Everything works great if I disable legacy support in the BIOS, but that won't allow me to boot the windows setup CD. After enabling legacy USB support in the BIOS it hangs for up to 3-4 minuites!

This is with BIOS 2618 mind you. I suspect 2634 is no different. But I guess I'll have to update my BIOS to see if it fixes the PS/2 issue.

Note to Intel: Get Boot issues working first, nm bloddy Vi$ta!

Update: Just flashed, OS hung@ shutdown, checksum detected an error in cmos had to manually warm boot Intel BIOS utility reported the flash as successful.

I'm scared to look.......

Update: Yup, still hangs for 4 min while USB legacy support is enabled Post Code 94.

Checking for PS/2 recognition please stand by.....Windows is now shutting down.....

Update: No fixy, still has the PS/2 keyboard issue.... Nothing to see here...move along.....

10 BIOS fixes and wadda ya get? Another CMOS Error and 4 minutes of fret.....

Just flashed mine to 2634 and guess I've been fortunate as mine has been uneventful. Set all clock speeds in BIOS to default prior to flash, booted, rebooted, chaged Ram timings and am going to let it go for a while to monitor before I OC.

Just got around to flashing my board an no problems...

Wonderfull! ....now disconnect your IDE/SATA rom(s), install a USB ROM/Burner and PS/2 Keyboard, then reboot and run the Windows Install CD. Lemme know how it goes.

I just flashed my board to 2634, everything is working fine although my hard drive light still flashes about once every second. I have disabled the marvell controller and that makes no difference. Is any one else's hard drive light flashing at idle? and is there a possible cure or is this still a bug in the bios code.

Naw, thats normal HD activity is all. The 'bug' was it stayed on all the time if you disabled the marvel.

confirmed. my ps/2-mouse sometimes still doesn't get recognized with bios 2634.


@Apoptosis: can you please tell/forward this to your contact at intel? that's really an annoying remaining problem with this board.

Just a quick tip for those suffering the PS/2 issues. If you start the computer from a no power state (cold boot), don't let it get past the bios setup, hit F2 then go straight to exit. Adds a few seconds to the boot process but it's quicker than loading the OS twice just to use the damn KB and mouse.

As previously reported this update did not fix the PS2 Keyboard detect issue.

Also I have a long first boot issue which is still there. When I first start from an off condition, I get the Intel screen quickly, then the screen goes black and stays that way for ~45 seconds, then the small post codes show in the lower right corner and then Vista luanchs. If I reboot I do not get the 45 second black screen. Do others have this issue or is there a bios setting I have wrong?

I don't seem to have that 'exact' issue. Do you have legacy USB disabled?

Yes the legacy USB is disabled.

I was thinking I am running a quad core QX6700. Would the bios sense the number of cores and would that slow done the boot process?

I don't think so, I haven't heard of any issue regarding the detection of quad cores. It's more likely an issue with the BIOS not properly getting it right the first go round, the second boot seems fine. I think it might be a timing issue, if I were to guess.

Your symptoms are the same as mine with Legacy USB enabled, it'll hang there at POST for like 4 minutes, really lame! oh wait thats not as lame as having to reboot cause the PS/2 keyboard wasn't detected....AAARRRGGGHHH.

So, If I want to load windows with legacy support or run the winxp setup I have to wait 4 min then reboot to detect KB thats another 4+ min blah blah blah....

Whats your setup like Steve? IDE? SATA? USB? HD? ROM(s)? ect

System is the D975XBX2 MB, QX6700 CPU, 2X1 GB Corsair DDR2 memory, 500GB SATA2 HD, BFG 8800GTX Video card, Lite On DVD/CD, and a floppy drive. I'm running with USB and Firewire enabled. Serial and parallel ports disabled, legacy USB disabled.

As I said the first boot is slow, but if I restart it runs quickly.

Hmm, is your burner IDE?

Try this: Shut down the comp (power off) then turn it on, as soon as you hear the monitor activate press F2, go to Exit saving changes hit 'Y', let it warm boot and see if that speeds things up for you.

I really don't know what to say, it seems this BIOS has some VERY serious detection issues, really starting to P*** me off

How do you guys flash the BIOS? From Vista? Or with a bootable CD? What's the best method for a BadAxe2...Mine is about to arrive tomorrow...

I usually use a floppy, but I've also done it from the desktop. It shouldn't matter too much as all the methods should work out for you.
