Hello all (my first post here!), here's the issue....
CPU-Z reports my E6600 at 1.6ghz, and the multiplier bounces from 6 to 9 to 6 to 9 to 6...back and forth...back and forth...
I have disabled C1E, EICS, and "Watchdog". I am using the lastest bios and tried bios 2333 as well. Both yield the same result.
I don't know what to do here. My system is rock solid so far (built this morning), but I can't seem to get past this one issue. Disabling all the things above did nothing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Need some help with E6600 showing as 1.6 ghz....
Welcome to the forums.
You'll need to disable Speed Step to keep this from happening.
The Core 2 Duo CPU is designed to lower the clock speed and voltage when it's not being used which is why you see it bouncing around so much. Trust me, you won't see a difference in performance with it disabled.
There are also those that tell you to disable it when you overclock but I have no issues using it while overclocking. As long as you aren't getting into extreme overclocking (TEC/Dry Ice/Phase change) it should be fine.
If you really wanna keep your CPU running at the rated speed, join our folding team!

Thank yiu for the welcome!
Isn't EIST speedstep?
I disabled C1E, EIST, AND Watchdog. None of that worked.
I read over at the Xtremeforums that disabling C1E in fact....does NOT disable it at all. Apparently, if you run rmclock, C1E is still right there still running, even if you do disable it in the bios.
Is there a way to disable it so I don't have to use rmclock every time I reboot my machine?

Ok, so what you actually need to do is to go:
desktop right click -> properties -> screensaver -> power -> swap to a profile that is max performance/always on
You can still have things like monitor off and standby enabled under these profiles, but they will keep your CPU at its rated speed. NB. This will keep your CPU at the max even when the BIOS settings like EIST are enabled.
I suppose you're aware that EIST is there to lower the power usage of your PC when its not doing anything (It ramps up to full speed when its needed), so if you aren't bothered by this then go ahead and do the above.

Still shows as 1.6ghz with a 6x multiplier.

@Bwall: I'm using an Intel Bad Axe 2 mobo.
So far, the only way for me to get CPU-Z to report the correct speed is to run rmclock everytime I start up. C1E seems to be running in the background despite disabling it in Maintenance bios mode and standard bios mode.
Shane
I'm stumped then. As long as its not some background rmclock setting thats conflicting with the powersetting method then I have no idea.
Appeal to the other BX2 users out there to see if anyone else has any problems. Shouldn't be an issue but check against their rev no's and if hte problem is replicatable.

Could it possibly be one of the thermal monitors that runs with these mobos?DMB2000uk wrote:I'm stumped then. As long as its not some background rmclock setting thats conflicting with the powersetting method then I have no idea.

On a side note, it looks like Jf in this other thread has the same issue:
