D975XBX2 - Missing IDE port on boot with Vista Ultimate 32

Hi,

I just finished building a new PC with D975XBX2 motherboard. I encountered few bumps on the road and trying to smooth things over.

The biggest one would be probably with the DDR2 800 memory. Since the availability of DDR2 800 2x1GB memory is rather scarce, I have to stick with GeIL or G.Skill memory. First I tried 2 sticks of GeIL DDR2 800 memory with no luck. It didn't run solid if I set it to 800 speed, although it ran fine if I set it to 667 speed. So RMA'ed the sticks and go with 2 sticks of 2x1GB DDR 800 G.Skill memory. If I use the auto settings with timing of 5-5-5-15 and 1.84 V, when I ran the Intel Desktop Utility Stress Test, the test came back with errors from the memory. I then modified the timing to 5-5-5-14 with the same voltage, and so far the Stress Test comes up clean.

The second problem is with the IDE/PATA port. I have 2 Plextor DVD+/-RW drives connected to the port. The problem that I'm having is sometimes after a reboot or cold start, the port is missing in Windows. So basically if I open Windows Explorer, I don't see both Plextor Drives. I have then to reboot the PC and everything is back to normal. I'm not sure what's the cause of the problem. My hard drives are all connected to Intel Matrix SATA ports (port0 - port3) and set it up as RAID 0.

The third minor problem is with the POST boot. Sometimes during the POST boot (both cold start and a reboot), I don't see the Splash Screen to go to BIOS Settings. It is just blank screen and continues on booting to the Opeating System.

I have updated the motherboard BIOS to the latest (I believe the BIOS is dated 03/15/07) but the second and third issues still randomly exist. And I don't plan to do any OC for now. I want to have a stable PC first and then go from there.

This is my system spec:
1. D975XBX2 w/ BIOS dated 03/15/07
2. Intel QX6700 CPU
3. Sapphire ATI X1950 XTX
4. 2 2x1GB DDR2 800 G.Skill running on 800 speed with timing 5-5-5-14 and 1.84 V
5. 4 SATA Hard drives connected on Intel Matrix Port0 - Port3 configured as RAID 0
6. 2 Plextor DVD+/- RW drives on IDE port
7. Floppy Drive (still gotta have it to make Windows installation much easier)

Thanks for your help.

Note: Edited for the memory size. The correct size is 2 sticks of 2x1GB memory.
