Help for Novice

Post by widnerg »

Can somebody please help a novice computer user? I am wanting to get better processor for my slow Toshiba Laptop, and I have no idea what Motherboard or "socket" type i have. I also do not know whether I have 32 bit processing or 64 bit processing. My computer is a Toshiba Satellite A105-S4004. It came with a Intel Core Duo T2300 processor that has 1.66Ghz, 2MB L2, 667 MHz FSB, and 945GM Express Chipset. It will soon have 4GB of DDR2 SDRAM and it has 100MB of Hard Drive which is about 60% free space.

I have been looking and looking at different Processors to try to figure out which ones I can use, but I am really afraid that I will screw up and buy something that wont work with my system. I am not a gamer, but I want something that will fly on the internet and on multiple program applications. I want to get something with at least 4MB L2, and 2.0 GHz speed. What I dont understand is about what MHz FSB rating I can run and what type of "socket" I need for my new processor without screwing anything up. Can somebody please help me out, or at least recommend a processor that will work with my setup? I am not as concerned with the cost as much as I am getting the right setup. I am open to any suggestions from anybody on any aspect of this problem. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE.
